Understanding Your Costs
When comparing business loans, it's crucial to look beyond just the interest rate. Depending on the product, your total cost of capital might be calculated differently:
APR (Annual Percentage Rate)
Used for traditional term loans and SBA loans. The APR represents the true annual cost of borrowing, including the interest rate plus any fees (like origination or closing fees).
Factor Rate
Used for short-term working capital and Merchant Cash Advances. A factor rate (e.g., 1.2) is multiplied by the loan amount to determine the total repayment amount upfront. It does not amortize over time.
